Full Version: Changing tempo adds 'hiss'

I've played with the demo of AudioCodex, using it to change the tempo of some of my songs. The trouble is, it adds a noticeable background 'hiss'. Is there any way of avoiding this?
There is always going to be some degradation in signal quality when using the Time or Pitch controls, however try checking the 'Quality' setting on the 'Warp' controls in the Inspector; if you are running a fast G4, G5 or Intel Mac try setting it to 'High'. This setting uses more CPU but achieves higher fidelity.

Thanks for the reply. The Warp Quality is already set to 'High', but that added hiss is annoying Sad

There's not much we can do about this at the Time-Pitch level, as AudioCodex uses Apples built-in AUTimePitch AudioUnit to achieve these effects. Experimenting with the 'Smoothness' and 'Tightness' sliders may provide some relief, as might some the Factory presets provided in the Presets menu.

To actively limit high-frequency noise you could try tweaking the built-in Equalizer settings, or to get more aggressive, try adding an AUDynamicsProcessor in the FxChain; it's a dynamic compressor/expander which can act as a noise-gate and limiter at the same time; you will have to tweak the default settings to get best results from it, a starting place is to try some of the Factory presets included with the unit. An alternative might be to try an AUFilter, AUHiPass, or even another AUGraphicEqualizer, or a combination of the above, in the FxChain.

If you only need pitch-shifting, an alternative might be to turn off the built-in 'Warp' and try using a different AudioUnit for Pitch shifting, again via the FxChain; a nice free AU to try is 'OctaveShifter 2' by Audiowish < http://www.audiowish.com/audio-units/oct...ifter.html >.
