Hello everybody at MC,

here is my current list of little things:

When using the menu, the range for pitch adjustment is +/- one octave, just like it says on the website & in the manual. But the slider in the Warp pane stops at 300 ct in either direction, which is a pity. On the other hand, the number boxes will accept values considerably below or above 1200 ct; perhaps some cosmetic cleaning-up would be O.K. some time. And b.t.w., on the website it says "+/- 1200 Hz" ("Hz" instead of "ct"). Similarly, the speed control slider stops at 2x instead of 4x.
Saving presets for individual AUs does not work reliably, deleting presets not at all. Sometimes switching from the current AU interface's preset menu to the one in the FX Chain Inspector pane takes as long as 10 seconds and looks sort of dangerous.
When playing audio in non-loop mode with a longish pause set in preferences (> 1s), pausing playback via the space bar will crash the program. This is a pity, as setting a pause between tracks can be a rather convenient way to play single audio elements - just hit the space bar somewhere during the 3 (or whatever) seconds, select the next required track, and start it using the return key.
It would be very convenient indeed if per-track settings could show in the Inspector even when the track is not currently playing. As it is, all sliders &c. jump to their positions only the moment playback is started. (Sounds like a fiddly problem.)

Apart from this, it's great fun of course ...

Best wishes - Niko

Hi there. I have upgraded to the latest version. When I try and play any some from the iTunes library or music lists, I get a message that the file cannot be found. I have changed the location of where AudioCodex looks for the iTunes library, to no avail. In fact the location that AudioCodex says it is looking for the file is in a location that I used way back when I first installed an earlier version. That location no longer exists but AudioCodex seems to be stuck trying to find files there. The new location of my iTunes playlist and files is on a network drive, if that makes a difference...
I have deleted the Pref file numerous times, reinstalled the old version and the latest version of AudioCodex multiple times to no avail...

In 1.2, I am still noticing some very erratic track reordering problems. There seems to be a one-off bug of some sort involved, but that is just speculation.

The symptoms: When I drag a new file into the playlist, and and then reposition it at the top of the playlist, the track often will not move, but instead the first item, and sometimes other ones, will show up twice in the play list. In order to correct this, AudioCodex must be restarted. At that point I can usually clean up the duplicates and reposition the newly added track.

This problem is difficult to reproduce, but I am still running into it on a fairly regular basis.

Hello everybody at MCdx -

while trying out your already very nice piece of software, I nevertheless ran into some strange behaviour, mostly when dealing with loops:

- To begin with, setting loop mode and adjusting the in/out-markers will not always create a new loop entry in the left panel unless I drag the audio item into the loop section.

- With many loops, the on/off state for the inspector's Adjust and FxChain tabs is not saved correctly. Changes to whichever state has been saved in the first place will not be remembered across sessions. Global is off in the pref pane.

- With some loops, the built in EQ is active although the box is not checked and the sliders are greyed out. To switch the EQ off, I have to check, then uncheck the box. In the next session, the behaviour will be identical.

- Changing the play position by clicking within a running loop plays the loop to the end marker, then starts playback of the next item in the list. At the same time, a new line appears in the loop list, which is a copy of an existing one - usually either the last one played or the current one. Now *this* is confusing.

- Whenever the program starts, it asks whether it should accept incoming network traffic. Whichever way I decide, it will keep asking every time around. I tried changing things in the System Preferences, but nothing helps. What is it doing, anyway?

- The inspector and other HUD panels (that the word?) are just a bit too transparent for my taste. Things can get rather detailed and complicated in them, and then still seeing the various lists and stuff of the main window coming through to a degree where I can read it seems rather unergonomical to me. I really have to concentrate on what I want to see and what not.

Keep up the Good Work & best wishes - Niko

Hello everyone at MC -

just installed the demo, looking very much forward to taking it through its paces. For some time now, I've been on the lookout for a non-timeline-based way of meddling with audio, using a bunch of rather simple applications with not too big an overhead of bells and whistles, but with tight integration into the general OS-look-and-feel. And MCodex might be the very app to almost perfectly complement my little set, currently mainly consisting of WireTap Studio for recording & simple editing, DJay for playback/mixing, an occasional Soundflower thrown in for good measure, and, of course, an Audio Unit or another. Particular after having reached a certain age (50!), I found I had to make a strong division between what I have a chance to actually do (fiddle with the aforementioned) as opposed to what I *might* do, but never ever get around to (running Bidule as a Plugin for Numerology while feeding GleetchLab into GarageBand or whatever).

So - here goes. After work I'll get to work ...

Best wishes from Frankfurt, Germany - Niko

P.S.: What about having effects not only chained one after another, but being able to feed some in parallel? Different delays, each with its own EQ? Mmmmmmm ...

AudioCodex has been updated to version 1.11. This new version patches several bugs & omissions that were reported or otherwise came to light after releasing 1.1.

Version 1.11 also patches the issue that lead to AudioCodex failing to display the main window after upgrading to 1.1 on Tiger unless the Preferences file was deleted.

Version 1.11 also exposes a new checkbox in Preferences, 'Resume playback from last time played'. This is a feature which wasn't supposed to be activated in version 1.1 but was inadvertently left turned 'on', without a checkbox provided to turn it 'off'. This error also exposed some problems with QuickTime playback which have also been fixed.

Release notes for this version can be read here: http://www.machinecodex.com/support/?q=release_notes
I would like to know if I can disable the visualizer gunk. I do e-music and the pretty pictures are a nice music consumer touch but to reach this apps' potential as a music production tool (don't tell me you haven't thought of it), we need to be able to free up resources (ram and cpu) that visualizer might use, whether in active use or not.
This ability will make mc a true dual use app. No more sittin on the fence, dudes.

Hi,

Cool program, I can see the flexibility and power in tweaking audio files. I do sound design for local theatre, so this could be a cool tool for my arsenal.

Thoughts after all of an hour playing:

#1. I dislike dials (knobs) on a computer. Sliders or digital controls seem more appropriate. Yes, sliders may take more screen space. How about giving users a preference we can tweak? I do like the horizontal option for rotating the dial.

#2. Is there an easy way to reset a knob to zero or normal? Maybe add a Factory Preset called "zero" or "reset."

#3. In the online manual http://www.machinecodex.com/wiki/doku.ph...l:00_index the list item numbers are cut off in Safari 3.1.1 under OS X 10.4.11.

#4. A very useful addition to your web site would be a walk though tutorial. For example, starting with a sound clip, and enhancing it (getting a sample, adding some reverb, and increasing volume) so you can add the audio to a youtube clip.

I'll keep experimenting. Mike

Several serious problems introduced with 1.1

I use Audio Codex for live performances in church.

In 1.1 there are a bunch of problems that were not present in 1.0

First, global track mixing volume does not work at all. It can be set on individual tracks only. When Global is turned on, the global volume reverts to 50% the moment any track is played.

Second, the play list behaves erratically. When reordering tracks, sometimes a duplicate of an existing track appears, and the one I dragged disappears.

Third, tracks now play from wherever they were paused last. In fact, it is not possible to get them to start at the beginning, unless the track completely plays through. Previously, when you selected a track, and hit Enter to play it, it would always play from the beginning. This is the correct behavior. If someone really wants the behavior in 1.1 where tracks play from when last paused, there should be some sort of "sticky" option for the tracks that needs to be set, rather than making all tracks remember where they were last paused.

Fourth, I have noticed several times when deleting a track, that Audio Codex will start playing the deleted track, even though it is no longer in the current playlist (or any playlist for that matter).

All of these behaviors were discovered on 10.5.3.

Please, please, please can you put up a download link for 1.0? 1.1 was a disaster in church today, and until the above is fixed, I can't use it. I no longer have a copy of 1.0. I really need 1.0 back before next Sunday, unless someone can suggest a way to fix the above problems.

AudioCodex 1.1 Tiger Issue & Solution

Hi,

Several users have reported problems with AudioCodex 1.1 on Tiger failing to load any playlists or display any windows after launch. While I posted a solution to this issue as a reply to my own announcement of version 1.1, replies don't show up in our RSS feed, so I am reiterating the symptoms and solution to this issue here as new thread.

We have identified the cause of this issue, it is due to a value being stored in Preferences in an inconsistent format by earlier versions of AudioCodex. When the new version of AudioCodex loads, if this value has been stored in the 'wrong' format by a previous version of AC, on Tiger, the main window will fail to display.

Note that Leopard users shouldn't experience this issue, as the Leopard framework for manipulating application preferences handles exceptions more gracefully than in Tiger.

There are two ways to solve this issue; the old-skool way is to quit AudioCodex, locate and delete the old preferences file and relaunch, as described in the forum post 'Deleting the Preferences File'.

As of AudioCodex 1.1 it is also possible to reset the Preferences to default values from within AudioCodex, even if the main window will not display.

To do so, in AudioCodex, go to the Help menu, and look for Advanced > Reset Preferences. After selecting the 'Reset Preferences' menu item, AudioCodex will present an alert message advising you that clicking OK will reset the preferences, and then quit & relaunch the app. Click OK, and when AudioCodex relaunches the issue should be resolved, and the app should behave as normal, although you will have to again customise any settings you made previously in the Preferences window.

Note that resetting the Preferences doesn't affect any of your playlists, watched folders, individual track settings or registration status, only the settings you apply via the Preferences window.

Cheers,

AudioCodex has been updated to version 1.1. The new version provides a bunch of exciting new features including:

- Processing of all enabled effects when exporting from CoreAudio sources
- Audio Output Device selection for CoreAudio playback
- Master Volume control, plus support for saving & restoring volume & pan settings per-track
- Group properties editor for AudioCodex playlists
- Visualizer Groups in the source-list, and some new built-in visualizer modules
- Visualizer presets support, allowing users to save & restore named settings for visualizers

As well as new & improved features, we managed to squash several long-standing, intermittently manifesting bugs that could lead to playlist and loop-marker corruption; these bugs should now be permanently eliminated. Full details of all changes and bugfixes in AudioCodex 1.1 are available in the release notes.

To coincide with the new release we have revised and updated the online manual, which is now also available for download as a printable PDF document.

For starters, thanks for what appears to be a great app. Just downloaded yesterday and, so far, its great. I am capturing Youtube videos as .flv files and then converting to .mp4

The files are music instruction related and, unfortunately, are not always in the right key and/or are too fast for me to keep up with. I'm using AudioCodex to correct the pitch and timing which works fantastically and way beyond my expectations while I run it 'live' on my Mac.

What I really want to do is save the whole .mp4 or at a minimum the audio portion with the corrected pitch and pace so that I can watch/listen on my ipod. I can't seem to do this. I can get an audio only but it's extremely distorted. So much so that I can't tell if the pitch and pace are correct.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Thanks.
