AudioCodex’s iTunes Source provides a convenient way to access your iTunes library and playlists from within AudioCodex. Double-click on an entry in iTunes to play the file.

AudioCodex scans the default music folder at startup and loads the iTunes XML playlists file found there. If you don’t use the default location (~/Music/iTunes/), or have multiple iTunes libraries, you can easily change the iTunes library to browse via the ‘iTunes’ tab in the AudioCodex Preferences window.

Note that you can’t create new iTunes playlists within AudioCodex, nor can you edit any of the fields displayed for tracks. AudioCodex’s “iTunes” tracks only provide a snapshot of the state of the initially loaded iTunes XML file. You can however sort the playlist order by clicking on the relevant header in the Tracks display.

Also note that settings applied to any iTunes Source track will not persist after AudioCodex has been quit, as the iTunes Source items are not saved between sessions. To make persistent changes, add your iTunes items to an AudioCodex Source playlist.

Once playback has been initiated from iTunes, AudioCodex will continue to use iTunes as the source for successive sound files in order until a new play request is received from within a different Source item.

Create a Loop from a tune

To create a loop from any tune, first select an entry in AudioCodex’s iTunes Source, then right-click/ctrl-click and choose the ‘New loop...’ option from the context menu and the Loops view will be displayed, with a new loop defined for the track.

Alternatively, with a track selected and playing, click the Loop button on the Toolbar and a new loop will be created.

Add iTunes tracks to an AudioCodex playlist

Simply drag your chosen tracks from an iTunes playlist onto the AudioCodex Source and a new playlist will be created with the chosen tracks. Alternatively, drag your chosen tracks to an existing AudioCodex playlist to add them.

Export a tune as an audio-file

To export a tune as a new self-contained audio-file, first select an entry in AudioCodex’s iTunes Source, then right-click/ctrl-click and choose the ‘Export...’ option from the context menu (or from the Action button on the toolbar) and the ‘Export Audio File’ sheet will be displayed, allowing you to export a copy of the tune to a wide variety of audio-file formats.

Burn a CD or DVD from iTunes

To burn a CD or DVD with the current iTunes playlist, right-click/ctrl-click and choose the ‘Burn Playlist...’ option from the context menu and the ‘New Disc Name’ sheet will be displayed, allowing you to specify a name for the new disc; clicking OK will reveal the standard OSX Disc-burning interface, with all available options enabled. Choose your burning options, insert a blank disc and click ‘Burn’ when available to burn the disc.
