Playback Modes

AudioCodex is built on a unique hybrid playback engine which preferentially plays files using Core Audio, if possible.

See Supported Formats for details on which audio and video file formats are supported in each mode.

Expiry of your trial period license results in Core Audio mode being disabled for all file types. To re-enable Core Audio playback, you will need to purchase a license for AudioCodex.

Core Audio Mode

Core Audio is the Mac OS X standard real time audio processing API, and comprises a set of frameworks, provided by Apple, which allow developers to streamline high resolution audio software development. AudioCodex is built on top of Core Audio, and it enables many of the effects features in the app.

In Core Audio mode, the Transport Panel Mode region shows Core Audio CPU usage, play time remaining, and the fx icon indicates that the FXChain is enabled

QuickTime Mode

Whilst Core Audio is extremely powerful, it is not intended for, nor is it capable of, playing every media format.

For playing other formats, AudioCodex uses Apple's underlying QuickTime playback engine with a limited subset of effects features.

In QuickTime mode, all Core Audio features are disabled

See Playing Protected Files for more details.
